Dancing, Dancing, Dancing
With obesity such a major topic of concern for parents, children, healthcare workers, and numerous other parties, it is no wonder that alternative forms of exercise are being actively explored. From the Play 60 movement that encourages kids to be active for at least sixty minutes a day to water aerobics for expectant mothers there has been an obvious shift towards a healthier lifestyle. As a web developer it is easy to allow myself to become sedentary. However, I live in a college town where there are all types of activities available to help me get the exercise I need.
Though I may not be Fred Astaire, I enjoy dancing. For me, dance is not only an expressive outlet, it is a wonderful form of exercise. I like the fact that dance combines artistic expression with an aerobic type exercise. With the music component thrown in, dance seems less like traditional exercise and more like fun! Of course I make sure to wear thick socks and comfortable shoes because the last thing I want is for my fun to become painful. From salsa to jazzercise, if you are looking for a fun, alternative way to exercise let me recommend taking a dance class.
