Blogging is not just for “Mommy Bloggers” anymore.
When I first got into blogging back in 2007, it was an industry that was predominately dominated by the consummate “Mommy Blogger”. Today, that is not the fact. It is amazing the changes that I have witnessed over the time that I have been involved.
In today’s blogging world, you have CEO’s of major companies that maintain their own blog, you have top journalist that has their own, you have prominent sports players that post theirs, and you definitely find industry specific business people that have their own. The big question comes down to whether or not you are reaching the type of readers that you want to reach. For that you to discover what type of blogger you are. So, lets take a look at the many different types of bloggers that are out there.
Journal Blogger – The journal blogger was probably one of the original bloggers on the net. Their focus is no more than detailing events in their own life. I have come across some of these that are great to read and then I have come across ones that really have no reason for being on the world wide web other than giving the blogger something to do to occupy their time.
Entrepreneurial Blogger – This is a totally different type of blogger. This blogger is set out to use their blog to make money. In other words, they are a hired gun persae. They seek out advertisers that want to pay bloggers to write reviews on the bloggers site. They might also sale off links to sites to also generate money. Typically their sidebar, header, and footer is either filled with banner ads or at least has the open space to sale some spots.
Pundit Blogger – These are bloggers that are very knowledgeable in what they write about and have no other purpose than sharing the knowledge that they have. These can be sports bloggers, news bloggers, etc…. While they might have some ads on their site, they are mainly focused on sharing the news at hand.
Industry Professional Bloggers – The industry professional blogger is typically the person that is out to generate business for themselves or the company that they work for. One industry that you can look at as an example would be the Real Estate industry. Amongst this industry, you can find a ton of Real Estate blogs that deal with many aspects of the industry itself.
Now, once you have determined where you fall, then you have to look at the people that comment on your articles. If you seem to be getting a few readers and even less in the comment realm, then maybe you need to reassess your blog. With that said, there might not even be anything wrong with your blog at all. You might just not have the tools or knowledge that it takes to push your site like you want.
Yesterday, I wrote an artile on another site of mine. The article ask the question Does Your Blog Get You The Exposure That You Need? It is a simple question when it comes down to it. Lets go back to the example of the consummate Real Estate blog. I have ran across a ton of these blogs that are great, yet, it seems that their traffic is mediocre at best. For these people, it would behove them to join a real estate network to help gain more exposure.
These types of networks are all over the place. The great thing is, they are not just limited to the Real Estate market. Neighborhood Expert Online is a great blog network to join for people that love to talk about the area they live in. It is also a great site for professionals to belong to as well as they can help get people interested in their neck of the woods. The Wordless Blog is another great network to join. This site is basically a photo blog and it gives the artistic person an outlet to post pictures and not worry about have to write a single word.
So, in closing, which type of blogger are you?
